UNATU’s (Uganda National Teacher’s Union) General Secretary Mr. Filbert Baguma insists that Arts Teachers will continue with strike unless their issues are addressed.

He also adds that if anyone thinks their action is illegal, they should take them to court.

On the other hand, government has given a second directive in less than a week urging Arts teachers to return to class rooms as government has already explained the mode of salary enhancement.

Arts teachers went on strike on 15th June,2022 following a salary increase that only included science teachers causing a huge discrepancy in teacher salaries.

Local government minister Raphael Magyezi revealed that government has reached a final decision to have arts teachers striking be sacked by today (Tuesday) if they do not return to classroom.

“As government , we have agreed that all those that will not have returned to class by today (Tuesday), will have absconded from duty henceforth , sacked and jobs advertised.” Raphael Magyezi.
